As a mum, there are many things that I have learned along the way that have made my life a lot easier. I'm here to share some of my tips and tricks with you, and to let you in on a few secrets that only mums know!
Firstly, as you know, being a mum is exhausting, but oh so rewarding. There's nothing quite like seeing your little one smile, hearing them laugh, as you watch them learn and grow. Sure, there are moments when you want to tear your hair out, but those moments are quickly forgotten when your little one wraps their arms around you and tells you they love you.
One of the most important things that I've learned as a mum is that it's okay to ask for help. Whether it's from your partner, a family member, or a friend, there's no shame in admitting that you need a break or that you're struggling. It takes a village to raise a child, and sometimes that village can be a lifesaver!
Another thing that I've learned is that kids are messy. They spill things, they drop things, and they make a mess everywhere they go. But instead of getting frustrated and trying to clean up after them constantly, I've found that it's better to embrace the mess. Now this took me a few years to master, holding back the anxious thoughts to just embrace the moment. It takes some inner work to let them play and explore, and to worry about the clean-up later.
And speaking of clean-up, one of my favourite tricks is to turn cleaning into a game. My kids love nothing more than a good game of "who can pick up the most toys the fastest," and it's a great way to get them involved in tidying up without it feeling like a chore. I have slowly found as they get older, this starts to lose its value, so now we have planned jobs for the kids to do, so they can learn about contribution, responsibility and accountability!
Finally, being a mum means that you have to have a sense of humour. There are going to be times when things go wrong, when plans get derailed, and when you just have to roll with the punches. But if you can find the humour in those moments, you'll be able to handle anything that comes your way. Take a breath a think about whether the emotions you feel are worth expressing or whether you can better focus the situation into a teachable and quality moment for everyone involved.
Now to put it simply, being a mum is hard work, but it's also the most rewarding job in the world. Embrace the mess, ask for help when you need it, and don't forget to laugh along the way!
